Plantation Shutters:

Plantation shutters are both attractive and functional. They are great for air control and adding ventilation to a room – designed for warm climates, they are easy to operate with moveable blades that allow airflow and light into a room.

Our range is sourced from high-quality materials and are available in either timber or PVC. We generally recommend PVC for most of our Illawarra clients because it will last longer in our climate, however timber is the preferred option for larger panels due to its lighter weight. If you are uncertain which option will suit your home, budget and application the best then we invite you to visit our show room or call (02) 4257 5822 to organise an obligation-free consultation with one of our sales representatives.

Plantation Shutters installation:

If you are interested in installing plantation shutters in your home or commercial business, then the first step is to request a free quote either as part of an in-home consultation or by uploading your house plans here. You can also bring your plans in-store and speak to one of our experienced staff.

If you are happy to move forward with the quote then we place your order (we will need to do a check-measure if your quote was based off plans) and take a 25% deposit. Shutters have a longer turnaround time than most of our other products and depending on which options you select, the time frame from placing your order to installation is 8-10 weeks.

We will confirm the installation date with you when we have a confirmed delivery schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Why are plantation shutters better than other window coverings?

Aside from the aesthetics, plantation shutters have a range of functional advantages over other window coverings as well. You have full control over the volume of light and airflow, enabling you to open up your home or seal it and block up to 90 per cent of the light from entering.

There is versatility and flexibility in design with hinged, sliding or bi-fold options available and they can be recoated in different colours later on to change the look and feel of your home. They are also a more durable option, will last longer than Venetian blinds and won’t rip and tear as fabric blinds can.

How long does the ordering and installation process take?

This process can vary depending on the availability of materials and complexity of the job but usually, it takes around five to six weeks. Demand can also be a factor, but we will always endeavour to have your shutters ready and installed in a rapid timeframe without sacrificing quality.

Can I have plantation shutters installed externally?

This is not recommended. Over time, even the most durable timbers and the best design will begin to deteriorate because of the elements. If you are looking for external window coverings, aluminium shutters are a better option.

If you want plantation shutters installed on the exterior of your home, PVC solutions will last longer than timber shutters, but they won’t look as good or have the same charm.

What advantages do wood shutters have over PVC or plastic ones?

The aesthetic appeal of wood plantation shutters cannot be emulated or beaten by other materials, which is why most customers opt for timber options. They are lighter and stronger than plastic so they can be designed into larger panels, giving you more flexibility and longevity.

Wood shutters can also be painted any colour you like and can be updated at any time. PVC shutters only come in white and you cannot paint them later. If you are looking for special designs like arches or ovals, this is much more easily achieved with wood panels as well.

The construction of wood plantation shutters using dowels means the blades are less likely to come loose over time.

Can I install plantation shutters in my bathroom?

Yes, and they make a very stylish inclusion for any bathroom setting. However, rooms with high levels of moisture and humidity, like your bathroom, kitchen and garage, can become warped or damaged over time. In this case, you might want to consider PVC shutters.

Can I install plantation shutters on a sliding door?

Yes. This is not only possible, but it creates a dynamic feature in your home. Using either sliding or bi-fold shutters, these can be designed to run on their tracks and complement your sliding glass door. You can control the light and privacy using these blinds and have a striking feature inside your home. This is perfect for sliding doors that overlook pools or entertainment spaces.

We are a family-operated business based in Oak Flats and we have been providing high-quality products paired with exceptional customer service for over two decades. Roller Shutters:

Aluminium roller shutters are great for insulation and heat, offer complete sun block-out, noise reduction and can also act as a security deterrent for would-be thieves. All our roller shutters are motorised with a few options available:

Hardwired Roller Shutters:

These are hardwired into your electrical system making them slightly more expensive to install.

Rechargeable Roller Shutters:

These shutters run on a rechargeable system that does not need to be hardwired into your existing electrical systems. This option is generally our preferred model because it is cheaper to install and if there is a fire or power outage, you will still be able to operate your shutters.

Solar Powered Roller Shutters:

Like the rechargeable shutters, our solar powered option does not have to be hardwired to your main electrical system, however as the solar panel sits above the shutter, they can only be placed in areas that receive enough sun.

The Process:

If you are interested in having roller shutters installed on your home or office then the first step is to get in touch with the team at Phoenix Blinds to request a quote – you can arrange for a free in-home consultation, visit us at our showroom or upload your house plans and requirements here.

If you are happy with your quote and want to move forward with the order then we will ask for a 25% deposit. Once the deposit is received, we place your order and book in an installation date – the turn-around time for roller shutters and other external products is generally 4 weeks.

Our team will take care of the entire installation process and will show you how to operate your new motorised aluminium roller shutters.
